Frequently asked questions

What is the Nisab in the UAE today?

As of 23 October 2026, the silver Nisab is AED 3,825.52 and the gold Nisab is AED 40,389.36. These are the values of 595 g of silver and 85 g of gold at today's prices.

How much Zakat do I pay in the UAE?

Zakat is 2.5% of your zakatable wealth (cash, gold, silver, investments and business stock, minus debts due now), once it has stayed above the Nisab for a full lunar year. For example, on AED 20,000.00 the Zakat due is AED 500.00.

Should I use the gold or silver Nisab?

Scholars differ. Many recommend the silver Nisab because it is lower, so more people pay Zakat and more of the poor benefit. Others use the gold Nisab, especially when most of your wealth is held in gold. If you're unsure, follow a scholar you trust.

Why do some sites show a different Nisab?

Scholars convert the 20 dinars of gold and 200 dirhams of silver to grams using slightly different coin weights. This page uses 85 g of gold and 595 g of silver (AAOIFI and most scholars). Using 87.48 g / 612.36 g (Hanafi / tola (South Asia)) instead, the silver Nisab is AED 3,937.14 and the gold Nisab is AED 41,567.78. Both are valid, so follow the one your scholar uses. You can switch between them in the Zakat calculator.
